Background

In 1948, a Letcombe Regis farmer gifted an area of his land for recreational purposes to the Letcombe Regis Parish. This land is owned by the Parish Council and managed by ‘The Letcombe Regis Recreation Ground and Village Hall Trust’, which supports the Cricket Club, Football Club, Tennis Club, Children’s Playground, the Riding Club, and Village Hall.  Each club is managed by an elected committee.  The Riding Club is constituted, operates a Code of Conduct, and a child safeguarding policy.

The Letcombe Regis Riding Club field and the all-weather arena is a unique, community equestrian facility for use by riders of all ages and abilities.  The club was established in the heart of a vibrant, thriving, multi-disciplined area of equestrian activity in 1977 and we celebrated our 40th year in 2017!

The ethos of the club is:

  • to provide and maintain a communal facility to support present and future generations of aspiring riders.

  • to broaden participation in equine activity by enabling people to continue with, take up or return to equestrian sport and therefore ensuring it flourishes and thrives in an area with strong, broad, and historic links to equine activities

  • to enable both horse and rider to perform to the best of their ability and reach their full potential

  • to provide a safe, year-round area to exercise, train & school

In October 2015 we were granted planning permission to build a 30 x 50m all-weather arena. Fundraising started in earnest and after a huge effort by all members of the committee, support from riding club members, friends, villagers, the Parish Council, the Recreation Ground, and Village Hall Management Committee, for our fundraising events, along with hugely appreciated

donations from several individuals and charitable trusts, we were able to raise the funds needed to build the arena. The arena was finally completed in the autumn of 2017 and we were very fortunate and honoured to have Clare Balding open it officially in December 2017.

The club is going from strength to strength thanks to the huge time and effort put in by the committee.  We are now running regular dressage, pole work, and show jumping clinics which are proving to be very popular along with an annual tabletop tack sale.

As a member, you are very welcome to attend our AGM meetings which will be posted on the website.

We hope you enjoy our new website and enjoy being part of the Letcombe Regis riding club.
